HORCHATA GUATEMALTECA (GUATEMALAN HORCHATA), Acrylic on canvas, inherited woven textile, morro seeds, sourced vase, 2026, 16×35×6 in
Cinnamon and morro seeds, which comprise the hands seen here, are strained through a cheese cloth to make horchata Guatemalteca. Its nutty aroma is released once lightly toasted and ground. As a child, my mother would pour water through a traditional white cheesecloth, and I would hold it tightly with both excitement and concentration for my very important task at hand.
