HORCHATA GUATEMALTECA (GUATEMALAN HORCHATA), Acrylic on canvas, inherited woven textile, morro seeds, sourced vase, 2026, 16x 20 in

Cinnamon and morro seeds, which comprise the hands seen here, are strained through a cheese cloth to make horchata Guatemalteca. Its nutty aroma is released once lightly toasted and ground. As a child, my mother would pour water through a traditional white cheesecloth, and I would hold it tightly with both excitement and concentration for my very important task at hand.
